Statement of Senator Dianne Feinstein on
BRAC Commission Votes

August 25, 2005
PDF Version

“California came out of the BRAC process as well as could be expected. It is my understanding that the net job loss will not be more than 2,000. My congratulations go to the Governor’s team, especially Leon Panetta and Donna Tuttle.

I am especially pleased with the Commission’s decision not to close or move the Naval Postgraduate School or the Defense Language Institute in Monterey. Recognizing the military value of postgraduate education, the Commission recommended creating a Defense Department governing board to oversee postgraduate education in Monterey and at the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. These new alliances will increase coordination between the installations and enhance the quality of the postgraduate education programs offered to our Armed Services.”
