"The U.S. Olympic Committee has chosen San Francisco and New York City as the two finalists for the U.S. selection for the Summer Olympic Games in 2012.   This is great news for the Bay Area and for the State of California.

There is no question in my mind that the Bay Area would be a tremendous place to hold the games.  The Bay Area has world-class sporting venues, unparalleled natural beauty, and the facilities to house the athletes, coaches and trainers.  I know that the people of the Bay Area would welcome the Games and would be great hosts to the world. Over the next months, the U.S. Olympic Committee will make a final selection and submit it for consideration by the International Olympic Committee.  It is my hope that San Francisco will be chosen, and that we can bring the games to the Bay Area."
