Statement by Senator Dianne Feinstein

- On the U.S. Freezing the Assets of Firms
and Individuals Associated with Drug Traffickers -

January 31, 2002

"I am gratified that the Bush Administration today moved to freeze the assets of 27 businesses and individuals believed to be associated with drug kingpins.

The intent of the 1999 Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act, which I sponsored with the late Senator Paul Coverdell was to strengthen the President's hand in combating international drug traffickers around the world.

With this action today the Administration has sent a clear signal that the war on drugs is continuing and that the United States will not tolerate those who aid and abet drug traffickers."
