Library of Congress Visitor Information "America's Library" now contains more than 113 million items and is a world-renowned research center for scholars. Special exhibitions – including a permanent display of the Gutenberg Bible, the first book printed with movable type – make the Library a favorite tourist attraction as well. The Library of Congress is open Monday through Saturday, except Christmas and New Year's days, for free public tours at 11:30 am, 1:00 pm, 2:30 pm, and 4:00 pm. Tours begin in the Jefferson Building, carriage level entrance on First Street, SE, and last approximately 30 minutes. For more information, call (202) 707-5458. Congressional tours of the Library of Congress are conducted Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, except Christmas and New Year's days, at 8:30 am. April through September, a 2:00 pm tour is offered on Wednesdays as well. Senators are not limited to a maximum number of Congressional tours per week, and may sponsor up to10 guests per tour, pending availability.
