The National Cathedral
Contained within the grounds of this 14th century-style Gothic cathedral are gardens, shops and an observation gallery that offers a spectacular view of Washington. The cathedral is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm. On weeknights during the summer (May 1 through Labor Day), the nave level remains open to the public until 9:00 pm. (Tours are not offered during those extended hours but volunteers are on hand to answer questions). Gardens are open daily until dusk. Good Shepherd Chapel on the Cathedral's north side is open for private prayer from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm daily. Guided tours are available to the public during these hours Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 11:30 am and 12:45pm to 3:15 pm, and Sundays following the 11:00 am service (about 12:30 pm) to 2:45 pm. While guided tours for groups of over 15 people are strongly recommended, walk-in groups, families and individuals should see a staff aide at the west end of the nave (northwest cloister March to June) to request a highlights tour. A $3.00 per adult and $1.00 per child donation is requested for the highlights tours, $5.00 per person for specialty tours (unless otherwise noted).
