Statement of Senator Feinstein on Senate Vote On Package Extending Unemployment Insurance
Washington, DC – The U.S. Senate today passed an economic-relief package that includes extending unemployment insurance to out-of-work Americans.
Following is Senator Feinstein’s statement:
“This is good news for millions of Americans struggling through the toughest economic times since the Great Depression. And it will provide much-needed help to California, where the unemployment rate is 12.2 percent, significantly higher than the national average. More than 2.2 million people are out of work in California. That number is greater than the individual populations of 12 states. Of these unemployed Californians, 71,000 exhausted their unemployment benefits last month. So this bill is welcome news for California.”
