Statement by Senator Dianne Feinstein on the Extension of L.A. County Medicaid Waiver
June 27, 2000
Los Angeles County reached an agreement today with the Clinton Administration to extend a Medicaid waiver that had been scheduled to expire June 30.
Granting of the waiver will help stabilize health care services for millions of Los Angeles County residents at County clinics and hospitals.
I offer my congratulations to Los Angeles County for coming to terms with the Department of Health and Human Services, which will allow the uninterrupted operation of Medicaid services and avoid serious layoffs.
I particularly want to thank Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky whose perseverance pushed the parties together, along with President Clinton, Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalaha and Governor Davis who played critical roles in reaching this agreement.
