Statement
of U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein
On Reaction to President Bush's Remarks
Before Congress on a Response to Terrorist Attacks
September 20, 2001
"I think as a speech it was a ten.
He put forward a battle plan. He inspired Americans and he brought us all together.
I think we find ourselves committed.
The enemy we have is one that resounds so negatively among the American people that it is probable that never before have we really had as a unanimous a feeling across this land. And I believe with our allies and his clear statement -- that you're either with us or you are for terrorism -- created that clear divide that the world needs to march forward. This is only going to happen with all of us together and with an arsenal of different kinds of diplomatic, financial, special operations, and intelligence that is going to be very unique in our history.
It was extraordinarily important that the President also separated the Taliban from the Afghani people. He showed the Taliban to be the despotic dictators that they are. I believe the President made this clear and that our enemy is not the Afghani people, but it is the Taliban unless they turn over Osama bin Laden and his people."
