BOXER AND FEINSTEIN WRITE NASA ADMINISTRATOR EXPRESSING
STRONG SUPPORT FOR AMES RESEARCH CENTER
November 9, 2001
San Francisco, CA --- California Senators Barbara Boxer (D) and Dianne Feinstein (D) called on National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Administrator Dan Goldin this week to urge continued funding of the Ames Research Center at Moffett Field.
In a letter to Administrator Goldin, Boxer and Feinstein noted that, "NASA Ames has a well established record as a federal research laboratory and is critical to the long-term research and development success of California and the nation."
Boxer cited that the NASA Ames Center's expert staff has made a strong commitment to research and acknowledged the importance of the center being at the forefront of information technology, biotechnology and nanotechnology research.
"The important work of NASA Ames scientists continues with such major programs as SOFIA, also known as the world's largest flying observatory, and the Centrifuge, which will serve as the core biological research facility for the International Space Station," stated Boxer.
"We urge you to provide continued
support and funding for the future-oriented programs at Ames."
