STATEMENT OF U.S. SENATOR DIANNE FEINSTEIN
ON THE DISCOVERY OF TRACES OF
ANTHRAX SPORES IN THE MAILROOM
OF HER WASHINGTON, DC OFFICE
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER, 10, 2001
"We have been told that trace elements of anthrax have been found in the mailroom area of the office. The spores are probably from mail that was contaminated by another letter with anthrax. We were advised by the (Senate) Attending Physician's office that the medical risk is virtually zero and no additional tests or treatments are necessary.
I met with my staff this afternoon and no members have reported any medical problems that can be associated with anthrax. We will, however, continue to monitor the situation very closely and we have been advised by the Attending Physician's office to seek medical consultation if any symptoms of anthrax become apparent."
