Union Station
The building was closed for restoration in 1978. Ten years and $160 million dollars later, the doors were reopened in 1988 with a gala celebration. It was the largest, most complex public/private restoration project ever attempted in the U.S. Union Station attracts more than 40,000 visitors daily. Its renovated halls contain an assortment of specialty shops, movie theaters and eateries, as well as Metro and Amtrak terminals. The building is open 24 hours daily. Store hours are Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, Sunday from 12 noon to 6:00 pm. The shops at Union Station are closed Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's days.
